Beaconsfield RFC
High Wycombe RFC

Although the score might suggest a relatively easy win, this was anything but, the game was tight and finely balanced right up until the last 10 minutes, when Wycombe ran in 3 tries.

It was great to welcome back Lewis and Tom from uni this week and Will from a long term injury.

From the kick off it was great Wycombe pressure, that finished with Lewis dotting down after just 3 mins. John then 'took one for the team' as he was awarded a yellow for preventing Beaconsfield from taking a quick tap penalty in front of the Wycombe posts that would surely have seen them equalling the scores with just 8 minutes gone instead they settled for 3 points.
Then Tom spotted the opportunity to tap and go and just got across the line from 3m out. Once again Beaconsfield came back and scored through a flowing backs move and great hands. Scores level after 30 mins.

Just before half time Wycs managed to pull away from Beaconsfield with a lovely break from Josh, who broke 2 tackles before offloading to Jamie who had put in the hard work to stay in support and was rewarded with a simple run in. Followed 1 min later with a great solo effort from Zac who evaded all pursuers with a lovely score.

So Wycombe go in at half time with a 10-22 lead - a cracking half of Rugby, the backs looked sharp and were benefiting from great ball from Tom and Joe at 9 and 10. The forwards had upped their game after being in danger of losing the breakdown battle in the first few minutes. Nothing much for the coach to say at half time - just keep doing the same.

The second half went pretty much the same way as the first, Wycombe score in the first minute, as first Big Ben powered forward 30m with half the Beaconsfield team hanging on to him and then the ball was quickly recycled to Lewis who turned the afterburners on to score a lovely try. Beaconsfield get one back before Josh makes another powerful break and adds to his seasons ever increasing tally of tries. Back come Beaconsfield with another lovely well worked try before Zac scores his second of the day. But once again Beaconsfield score again just 2 minutes later

So 10 minutes to go and Wycombe lead 37-27, Wycombe have just had the edge for most of the game but there really was very little in it. But that's when the game finally swung Wycombe's way - whether Beaconsfield just ran out of steam or threw caution to the wind in going for the win, is hard to say as first Greg made a lovely run in from the 22, followed by some lovely football skill from Joe O who kicked through from half way and outpaced 2 defenders as he kicked on twice more before winning the foot race to the line and just time for Zac to complete his hat-trick with another fine solo run.
