On the day Windsor out gunned Wycombe in most departments although the score is not a true reflection of the game. Windsor were strong in the backs, played with impressive continuity and were aggressive at the breakdown. For spells during the match Wycombe matched them, but couldn't keep up the intensity required for the whole 80 minutes.
The game started well for Wycombe as Paddy A touched down for Wycs with just 2 minutes on the clock as a penalty kick that everyone thought was going into touch bounced through 2 Windsor defenders and Paddy was first to react. Great start !
Windsor replied with 2 quick tries in the next ten minutes, before Paddy scored his second of the day following a great period of possesion from Wycombe - Joe converted from out wide to take the score to 12-14 with 25 minutes played - game on !
Windsor again replied quickly for their 3rd try, but back came Wycombe again as a penalty kick to touch resulted in a secured line out and great driving maul which was absolutely, definitely, unquestionably going to result in a Wycombe try ... and then as the maul crossed the line our sage as houses scrum half James P, somehow managed to drop the ball in the act of touching down....c'est la vie I suppose.
Windsor scored again just before the break. So we were down 12-26 at half time.
The second half saw spirited Wycombe play, but truth be told, not really a match for Windsor's well drilled squad as they ran in 4 unanswered tries in the second half, the hi-light of which was a yellow card for our butter fingers 9 (who actually had a pretty good game otherwise) as a trip from a Windsor player resulted in some petulance and yellow for Windsor and Wycombe.
Special thanks to Dan, who manfully pitched up to be on the bench for 80 mins after flying a million miles round the globe during the week, to Gabriel, playing out on the wing for the full 80 - some distance from his normal slot and a big welcome to Alex our new Aussie recruit who had a cracking game in the front row just 4 days after arriving in the UK and even managed the traditional yard of ale on his debut with only a small up-chuck at the end.
