It was a much depleted 2XV with no front row cover that faced the men from Windsor at the Mead for a hotly contested league scuffle. Led by Greg Butters Wycombe found themselves a converted try down after just 6 mins but after some sharp words Wycombe went straight back up the pitch from the restart and after a couple of phases went over for a well worked try by Billy Lynch in the centres. Wycombe continued to contest with a bigger but slower Windsor pack and did some great work at the set piece to win ball. Greg came off after incurring a blood injury to the back of his head and continued to work strongly at open side flanker for Wycombe. Some good clearing from hand ensured that pressure was lifted from the home side as Connor Walker at fly half went over for another try ensuring Wycombe went into the half time break leading 10-7.
A fine run saw Joff Forber break the gain line and fend off a tackler to power over for a third try just after half time. 5 mins later Windsor returned with a converted try and closed the gap before Oscar Brown on for his brother Harry went over for a very deserving try after making numerous breaks to the gain line punching holes in the Windsor defence.
Later after running some very strong lines throughout the game and some good work evading the player marking him Matt Campbell picked up a pass from a blistering break by Wycombe to beat a defender and run in another try for the home side lengthening the lead further and complimented further by a Kieran Pond conversion .
Greg Butters at this point picked up a ball in our half an proceeded to cut the Windsor defensive line to shreds beating 3 players and making 25 meters before pulling up as he accelerated with a hamstring injury which was added to as Paddy Anula limped off later in the game. The forward pack continued to dog it out at the set piece and breakdown with Joff Forber playing a fantastic game in the back row and Harry Brown back on the pitch making a significant difference to the breakdown. Murray Horn in typical fashion won all of his own ball and made an outright nuisance of himself in the line out on Windsors ball along with making some excellent tackles . Strong running with ball in hand and hard work at the breakdown meant good performances by Anthony Farthing and newcomer Jamie Riszk and a solid performance by the Wycombe front row meant that they kept the scrum going throughout the 80 mins . Windsor ended the game with a break away try which was almost stopped on the line by a Wycombe tackler but it was small consolation as Wycombe never looked like losing throughout the game.
Well worked Wycombe.
