Having suffered some heavy defeats in recent weeks it was always going to be interesting to see what team Bletchley could put out. Wycombe again fielded a fairly youthful team but welcomed back experienced players, Ian Burnham, John O’Clee and Matt Wardle.
From the start, Wycombe looked dangerous and after three minutes a good break from the returning Ollie Fennell-Wells took play into the Bletchley twenty-two, Wycombe kept the ball alive and recycled the ball back out to Ollie who broke through three tackles to score in the corner, Cam Baker missed a tough kick 5-0. From a lineout, a bullocking run from prop Aryton Hooker carried the ball deep into the opposition half and Bletchley were penalised. Wycombe decided to take a scrum five metres from the try line, from the scrum the ball was fed to Tom Boardman who crashed over the line, Cam added the extra points 12-0. Straight from the kick-off, a good pass from Matt Wardle released the dangerous Ollie Fennell-Wells who made another break up to the half way, but in trying to obtain quick ball Wycombe knocked on. At the scrum, great pressure from scrum half Joe Openshaw disrupted the Bletchley number nine and Wycombe came away with the ball which was passed out to Freddie Roddick who beat his opposite number to score, Cam made the kick 19-0. Through some Wycombe ill-discipline Bletchley were able to build pressure and territory but eventually knocked on and Wycombe were able to clear the ball. Bletchley weren’t helping themselves with individual errors and from an over thrown lineout Wycombe were gifted possession and made good ground into the Bletchley twenty-two, eventually the ball came to Cam who offloaded to tight head prop Henry Wyse and he crashed over the line to score, Cam made the kick 26-0. Wycombe continued to dominate and just before half time Wycombe fed the ball out to Ollie Fennell-Wells who handed off his opposite number and had the pace to outstrip the defence and score, Cam again added the extra points 33-0. On the stroke of half time Wycombe were awarded a scrum on their own five metre line and decided to run the ball. Firstly, Tom Boardman made a break and fed the ball out to Tom Catchpole who took the ball into the Bletchley twenty-two, Wycombe recycled the ball and were within five metres of the try line when a knock on halted their progress and there was no further score until after half time.
Bletchley restarted the second half, Ian Burnham gathered the ball and fed Tom Catchpole who made a break through the heart of the Bletchley defence, after a few phases prop Aryton Hooker scored from close range, Cam made the kick 40-0. From a Wycombe penalty for offside Bletchley were able to some build pressure, but a knock on surrendered possession back to Wycombe, and eventually a long pass to Matt Wardle saw him dummy two players and score under the posts, Cam adding the extra points 47-0. From the re-start the ball was collected by Aryton who made another great break but when the ball was spun out a knock on halted the attack and Bletchley cleared the danger. An overthrown lineout presented the ball back to Bletchley who decided to kick and the high ball was taken well by Rob Morgan who had just come onto the pitch, he offloaded the ball to Cam Baker who made a break which took him just short of the try line, he offloaded to Freddie Roddick who scored, Cam once again made the kick 54-0. Wycombe were now totally dominant and scored a further three tries in quick succession all from the impressive outside centre Tom Catchpole with Cam making two of the three kicks 73-0. In the dying minutes, another strong run from Aryton Hooker set up a good attacking platform and eventually Freddie Roddick scored Cam made the kick 80-0. Again, straight from the kick off Wycombe held onto the ball and made easy yards into the Bletchley half with Aryton Hooker scoring his second try, with the kick good the game finished 87-0.
A fantastic performance from the whole team with thirteen tries scored, the only down side to the game were the injuries to John O’Clee and Joff Forber which hopefully are not to serious. Credit to Bletchley (who have apparently lost several first team players) as the players who stepped up never gave up.
Next week is the final home game of the season against Buckingham who we narrowly lost to away.
