At High Wycombe Rugby Club, we're passionate about supporting the health and wellbeing of our members and players, with our Physio's providing top class facilities for player welfare from Minis through to Seniors.

Mental Health is as important as physical wellbeing, and we are committed to providing our rugby community with the support they need.

As adults, we try and stay strong for our families and friends, but there will always be times when we feel a little more vulnerable.

It's OK to not be OK.

It's OK to talk and it's OK to ask for help.

With large Minis, Youth and Girls' sections, we are only too aware of the pressures that young people face.

We are working with local charity YES. YES have people you can talk to confidentially, who will listen without judgement and who can offer support

Who are YES

Youth Enquiry Service (YES) is a charity that has supported young people in High Wycombe and the surrounding areas since 1982. We believe that all young people should have access to the mental health support they need, whenever they need it.

We provide a range of early-intervention mental health support and wellbeing services for young people. All of our services are free and easy to access, and are open to any young people living, working, or studying, in High Wycombe and the surrounding areas.

What YES Offer

 Counselling:

  • One-to-one counselling support for young people aged 13 to 35 years
  • Initial offer of 12 sessions which can be in-person or online, daytime or evening, Monday to Saturday
  • All counsellors have enhanced DBS checks and are either fully qualified or in the final stages of training
  • The counselling we offer is person-centred (i.e. led by the client) and is safe, supportive, and empowering
  • We are an organisational member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)

Drop-in information, advice, and guidance (IAG):

  • Practical and emotional support for young people aged 13 to 25 years
  • Drop-in centre open from 12pm to 6pm Monday to Friday, and 11am to 3pm on Saturdays.
  • We can provide practical support with things like applying for benefits, accessing housing, etc.
  • We also provide a safe space for young people to talk about the things that are bothering them, such as bullying, relationships, sexual health, etc. (YES is also part of the C-Card scheme)
  • In-depth knowledge of local services, so if we can’t help – we’ll know who can!

Youth Advisory Board:

  • New and exciting volunteering opportunity for young people aged 13 to 25 years
  • Gives young people the platform to help plan future YES services, learn new skills, and support their community by improving mental health services for other local young people
  • Great opportunity for young people looking to gain volunteering experience which they can include in their personal statements for university or on their CVs

Whatever support you need, or whatever issue you are dealing with, remember…

If you need to talk – we’re here for you.

Why YES are Needed

In November 2023, NHS data reported that 1 in 5 young people aged between 8 and 25 years had a probable mental health problem. Alongside this, a survey conducted by YoungMinds in 2019 highlighted that two-thirds of young people could not find support when they needed it.

YES is working to change these statistics for the young people in our area. The support we offer is open to any young person, easy to access, and completely free of charge.

As a provider of early-intervention mental health support, our focus is on supporting young people with the issues affecting them at an earlier stage. By doing so, we reduce the likelihood of young people developing severe mental health challenges and provide them with the tools they need to maintain positive mental health and wellbeing.
